The plastics world gathered in Dusseldorf, Germany from October 19 – 26, 2016 at the K-Messe trade fair. EMS-GRIVORY was also represented with a top booth, culinary highlights and many new products.

The K-Messe in Dusseldorf adorns itself with the slogan “The World’s No.1 Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber". This is not just a proud claim, but a simple fact which is underlined again by the statistics given in the K 2016 final report: 230 000 visitors from more than 160 countries travelled to Dusseldorf for the fair; 70% of these from abroad including such exotic destinations as Costa Rica, Jamaica or Mauritius. The trade fair is the innovation platform for the whole trade sector and an absolute must for many in the business.

Tasty Grisons snacks

The large number of visitors ensured an excellent mood for both the organisers as well as the 3285 exhibitors throughout the eight trade fair days. As usual, one of these exhibitors was EMS-GRIVORY! To sweeten customers to the idea of a visit, the Swiss polymer specialist took a very special approach. The personal invitation cards were accompanied by a small Grisons nut cake with the intention of making customers hunger for more; and not just in a figurative sense: The card could be swapped at the EMS-GRIVORY booth for a larger nut cake. This idea was received very well by customers and the sweet Grisons treat was praised by many participants.

News from EMS-GRIVORY

There was naturally much more to be had at Stand E61 in Hall 6 than culinary delights. The latest news from EMS-GRIVORY for example: Punctually for K 2016, EMS launched two new product lines which lift the well-known, tried and proven metal-replacement products Grivory HT and Grivory GV to new levels of performance at high temperatures. Also new in the portfolio is Grivory G6VX-AP, particularly well-suited for thin-walled parts which must have high stiffness and show practically no warpage. This information and much more was waiting to be read in the “K Depesche", the EMS trade fair newspaper which was available distributed throughout the booth. The newspaper was particularly popular because it gave a quick overview of the different application areas where EMS polymers are used. A further plus: The described components could be seen presented at the booth.

Successful trade-fair stand

In contrast to previous years, a new German stand designer was employed for the K 2016. Despite the good cooperation in the run up to the fair, the suspense was high to see if the setup would look as good when finished as on paper. The construction crew was quickly forgiven for hanging the map of Switzerland upside down to start - the whole stand was really top. With a simple, modern design and high-quality materials it was light, uncluttered and with a breath of Swissness. On the ground floor was the bar, numerous meeting tables and the visitors' competition (a one-arm bandit with an iPhone look). On the top floor there was a lounge area for longer meetings with important customers where cow-skins contrasted with the modern appearance and made things cosy. Actually, a few extra square metres with some additional seating areas would have been good to deal with the 876 visitors during the rush hour periods.

New facilities, established stand party

Also new this year was the hotel ship, the “MS Rheinprinzessin”. Fortunately, the ship was moored further down the river than in 2013 so that the 62-poeplestrong EMS team was much nearer to the trade fair site. The floating accommodation provided a pleasant environment and the buffet was also very good. Here also some points could be improved on, the lack of WLAN in the rooms for example.

Just as good as usual though was the stand party with the Streetlive-Band and the Cocktail Divas. Once again, Joe Whitney and his band thrilled the audience right from the start. This is one of the reasons why the EMS stand party has developed into the cult party of the show!

Positive conclusion

We were able to draw a very pleasing conclusion after the trade fair – this is also clearly emphasised by the employee survey which was carried out afterwards. The survey shows us where we still have room for improvement: Many thanks to all those who participated. We look forward to correspondingly improving our trade fair appearance; and naturally a big thank you for the commitment and support shown during and after the event.
